Indian Ruins

During opening weekend of archery deer, I decided to swing by and check out some Indian ruins I hadn't been to in years.  It always amazes me the country that these people lived in and how they survived.  Why did they build where they did?  Where these defensive positions, or living quarters?  I couldn't imagine raising little kids or even hauling all the necessary building materials (rocks and logs) to some of these locations.
