Pre-Hunt Prep - Boot Treatment

With hunting season quickly approaching, I decided to document how I prepare my boots for the upcoming season.  The two pair of boots I was working on were my Danner Frontiers and Meindl Denali Fit IQ boots.  Here is what they looked like before I applied any of the leather treatments to them.
I popped in Extreme Bulls 4 into the dvd player and went to work.  For the Danner Frontiers (left in above picture) I started out with the Danner Brown Boot Dressing and the applied the Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP leather protectant/preservative.
For the Meindl Denali boots I just used the Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP.  The Obenauf's really does a good job at protecting and sealing the leather from outside contaminants, be they dirt, water, or oils.  Here are the finished boots.
Not really sure if my Danner's will make it through another season.  They have been squeaking, so hopefully oiling them up will work out that squeak.  However, both pairs of boots are ready to face another upcoming hunting season.  With deer season about 5 weeks away, there is plenty more to work on.  I'll hopefully have another post on re-applying the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish to gore-tex rain gear and soft-shell jackets soon.

  1. The boots are GoreTex lined and uninsulated and I like it that way. I've found a layer of quality Wool socks with a silk sock liner will keep me warm in almost any conditions. Best Hunting Boots
